The study focus is on the development and validation of measures of connectedness, character development and psychological well-being among adolescents for use in low-middle income settings. By having comprehensive validated measure, we envision to inform development of appropriate interventions to enhance well-being among adolescents.
  • Contribute to a systematic review of literature on adolescent well-being
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of community engagement activities for the project
  • Assist in the implementation of research activities under the supervision of the Research Associate. This will entail but not be limited to:
  • Mobilization, recruitment and consenting of study participants, while working closely with the relevant government officials and community representatives at the study sites
  • Ensure readiness of data collection tools and devices (translations, consents, recording, storage and safety)
  • Coordinate data collection ensuring adherence to ethical procedures
  • Organize the field team for data transcriptions, cleaning, coding
  • Ensure proper documentation of all procedures and overall research process in coordination with Research Officer and the data manager
  • Ensure proper storage of all records and raw data
  • Ensuring appropriate back-up of study data is in place
  • Support with basic data analysis for quantitative data and qualitative data
  • Ensure documentation of field experiences using various formats for different audiences
  • Work closely with the AKU communication team to ensure project activities are profiled through the different channels of communication targeting all key stakeholders including adolescents, parents, implementers and policy makers.
  • Assist in the planning for dissemination of study findings through appropriate channels to all the relevant stakeholders including the policy makers, implementers, academicians, other scientist and study beneficiaries
  • Under supervision of the Research Officer, support with scientific communication through dissemination in conference and peer reviewed journals


  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, Nursing, Sociology, Community Development or related social science
  • Post graduate training in health research methodology is desirable
  • Experience coordinating or supporting a research project
  • Strong background in mixed methods research
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in systematic review of literature
  • Strong oral and academic writing skills
  • Working knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative statistical software
  • Can work under minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili
  • Keen desire to learn and share knowledge
