Retail Company Accountant Job in Kenya 2019

Job Title: Retail Company Accountant

Our Client is an iconic fashion retailer in Kenya with branches spread across major towns.

They seek to hire an accountant with the responsibility of managing all accounting and financial transactions, work hand-in-hand with the Finance manager in preparation of and tracking of budgets, stock take and stock reconciliations and ensuring accuracy of accounting information processed through the system.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that standard accounting principles are upheld in all finance and accounting operations.
  • Perform day to day accounting operations of the business ensuring that correct transactions are posted in the system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in stock take and stock reconciliations and assist in variance analysis.
  • Report to the Finance Manager on any policy flaws and execution weaknesses. Offer solutions on operational challenges within the department.
  • Give guidance on ways to enhance operational efficiency, cost reduction, improvement on working capital and any other area that could potentially add value to the business
  • Ensure the integrity of the financial data in the accounting software.
  • Develop scientific metrics that ensures that the company maintains optimal stock levels to avoid overstocks and stock outs
  • Be an integral part of the monthly financial stock takes and investigate all variances which arise and explain these to management.
  • Ensure proper cash management and filing to meet the set procedures and guidelines
  • Ensure that the company is fully compliant with all tax and financial obligations as per the legislation and regulations of Kenya. Engage third parties to provide assistance as and when necessary.
  • Develop, in conjunction with the senior management team and the credit manager, a robust process for credit management and be responsible for its implementation.
  • Develop and track department key performance indicators and provide regular feedback to the team on these and any areas in need of improvement.
  • Ensure all documents are filed in an organized manner and easy to retrieve.
  • Manage the annual external audit and present the draft audited accounts to the Senior Management for review and sign off.
  • Provide weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts for senior management to review and sign off on.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports on company performance, and ensure any issues are investigated and explained.
  • Any other related tasks as may be assigned by the management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Finance/ Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA (K), ACCA , or equivalent)
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in similar capacity within a retail organization
  • Applicants who have worked as an accountant within a retail environment will have an advantage.
  • Must be a person that upholds deed sense of integrity
  • Highly analytical and can develop data driven operational metrics
  • Team player
